ScriptureScroll
Privacy Policy
The short version. ScriptureScroll has no accounts and no analytics. Your name, your goal, your streak, your saved verses and the apps you chose to block are stored on your iPhone and are not sent to us. We could not read your reading history if we wanted to, because we never receive it.
1. Who we are
ScriptureScroll is an iPhone app that blocks apps you choose until you have spent a set number of minutes reading the Bible. This policy explains what the app does with information, and covers both the app and this website.
In data protection terms, the developer of ScriptureScroll is the data controller for the limited processing described below. You can reach us at support@scripturescrollapp.com.
2. What stays on your device
Nearly everything ScriptureScroll knows about you is written to your iPhone's own storage and stays there. It is not uploaded, backed up to us, or shared. This includes:
- The first name you enter during setup, and the age range, denomination and goals you select.
- Your daily reading goal and how many minutes you have read today.
- Which passage you are on, which translation you prefer, and the last book and chapter you looked at.
- Your streak, your tree's growth, and which days you completed.
- Verses you save and the colours you highlight them with.
- Whether you turned the daily reminder on, and for what time.
This information is used only to run the app on your phone. There is no ScriptureScroll server that receives it, and we have no way to look at it.
3. Screen Time and app blocking
The blocking feature is built on Apple's Screen Time framework (Family Controls). When you choose which apps to block, Apple's own picker appears and your selection is handled by iOS.
Apple deliberately hands apps like ours opaque tokens rather than the names of the apps you picked. That means ScriptureScroll itself cannot tell which apps you selected, even while it is blocking them. Those tokens never leave your device and are not readable by us.
ScriptureScroll does not, and technically cannot, see how long you spend in other apps, what you do inside them, or your browsing history.
4. Notifications
If you allow notifications, ScriptureScroll schedules them locally on your iPhone — a daily reminder at the time you choose, and a reminder two days before a free trial would convert to a paid subscription. There is no push server, so no device token is registered with us and no notification content passes through anyone else's system. You can withdraw permission at any time in iOS Settings.
5. Subscriptions and payment
ScriptureScroll is a paid app. Payment is handled entirely by Apple through your App Store account. We never see or receive your card details, billing address, or Apple ID.
To know whether your subscription is active, the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription management service, which validates the App Store receipt on our behalf. When it does this, RevenueCat receives:
- A randomly generated anonymous identifier. We do not link it to your name, email, or Apple ID — we never ask you to sign in, so there is nothing to link it to.
- Your App Store purchase receipt, and the resulting subscription status, product, and renewal dates.
- Basic technical details such as your country, device model, iOS version, and app version.
RevenueCat processes this on our instruction as a data processor. Their privacy policy is at revenuecat.com/privacy. Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
6. Downloading Bible text
Bible passages are downloaded from public, freely available sources rather than bundled into the app, so that it stays small. When the app fetches a passage it contacts:
- bible.helloao.org — for individual chapters.
- cdn.jsdelivr.net — a public open-source content delivery network, for full translation files.
As with any request to any website, those servers can see your IP address and which passage was requested, and may keep ordinary server logs. The request carries no account, no name, and no identifier from us, so it is not connected to you or to anything else you have read. We receive nothing from these requests.
7. What we do not do
- We do not ask you to create an account or sign in.
- We do not use any analytics or crash-reporting service.
- We do not show advertising and do not use advertising identifiers.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites, and the app does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission because it has nothing to track you with.
- We do not sell or share personal information, including as those terms are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act.
- We do not request access to your contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or location.

This website itself sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts.
9. Keeping and deleting data
On-device data is kept for as long as the app is installed. Deleting ScriptureScroll from your iPhone deletes all of it — your name, streak, saved verses, and settings — permanently and immediately. There is no copy elsewhere for us to remove.
Your purchase record is retained by Apple and RevenueCat under their own policies, because it is a financial record. Ask us and we will request deletion of the RevenueCat record associated with your subscription, as far as their retention obligations permit.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to a regulator. In the UK that regulator is the Information Commissioner's Office; in the EU it is your national supervisory authority.
In practice, because your data lives on your own device, you can already exercise most of these directly: everything is visible inside the app, you can change any of it in Settings, and deleting the app erases it. For the subscription record described in section 5, email us and we will act on your request within 30 days.
Where we process personal information, our lawful basis is the performance of our contract with you — providing the app and its subscription — and our legitimate interest in confirming that a subscription is valid.
11. Children
ScriptureScroll is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us and we will delete it. Note that Apple's Screen Time picker may be restricted on accounts managed through Family Sharing.
12. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. If a change materially affects how your information is handled, we will say so in the app before it takes effect.
